Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the Senate, has alleged that some of her colleagues in the Red Chamber have consistently limited her ability to fully carry out her legislative duties.
In a statement released in Abuja through her media office, the lawmaker expressed concern over what she described as ongoing efforts to sideline her within the Senate.
According to The Nation, she specifically pointed to her exclusion from the Senate Committee on the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), which she believes reflects a pattern of marginalisation.
The statement said: “Akpoti-Uduaghan reportedly arrived at the committee meeting fully prepared to engage in proceedings, only to discover that her name was missing from the official attendance list.
“Upon noticing the omission, she sought to consult the Committee Clerk to determine the reason for her exclusion.
“She was informed that the Clerk was in the office of the Committee Chairman, Titus Tartenger Zam, prompting her to proceed there for clarification.
The statement further explained that during the exchange, the senator claimed the Committee Chairman suggested he was acting on directives from higher authorities, although no details were given about who issued the instructions.
Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan described the situation as part of what she sees as a repeated effort to sideline her, emphasising that all senators are constitutionally equal in status, powers and responsibilities. She questioned the legal and procedural grounds for excluding her from a committee whose activities directly concern the North Central region she represents.
