Tech billionaire Elon Musk has revealed that SpaceX has shifted its near-term focus to building a “self-growing city” on the Moon, saying it could be achieved in less than 10 years.
According to Musk, progress on the Moon would be significantly faster than on Mars due to logistics. He explained that Moon launches can happen every 10 days, with a travel time of about two days, unlike Mars missions which rely on planetary alignment every 26 months and take around six months to complete.
While confirming that plans for a Mars city remain active, Musk said work on Mars could begin within five to seven years. However, he stressed that the Moon offers a faster and more achievable path to securing humanity’s long-term survival.
“If we care about the future of civilisation, the Moon is the quicker win,” Musk suggested, pointing to scalability and rapid iteration as key advantages.
The vision marks a strategic shift — putting the Moon first, while Mars remains the ultimate goal. 🌕➡️🔴
