Former Edo State Governor and Senator for Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has described electoral fraud as the worst crime in any democracy.
He made this statement during an interview on News Central, while talking about delays in Nigeria’s electoral reforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oshiomhole said practices like vote buying and result manipulation destroy the voice and choice of the people.
Sharing his experience, he said he won his 2012 re-election in all 18 local government areas of Edo State without giving voters money.
According to him, he openly told voters that he would not buy votes but promised to deliver development and good governance instead.
The lawmaker stressed that free and fair elections are the foundation of democracy, adding that Nigeria’s electoral laws already have punishments for vote buying and election rigging.
