Former Resident Electoral Commissioner, , has cautioned President against assenting to the proposed amendments to the , raising serious concerns about the reliability of telecommunications infrastructure during elections. Speaking during a recent interview on , Igini argued that certain vulnerabilities within the system could undermine the transparency of future polls.
According to him, one of the major risks associated with the current framework is the potential manipulation of mobile network services, which are crucial for the electronic transmission of election results. He warned that if adequate safeguards are not established, the electoral process could be compromised through deliberate network disruptions.
“In his words,” Igini stated, “There will be no network because the capacity to connive with mobile network operators not to allow network to go on is there.” He suggested that the possibility of collusion between powerful interests and telecommunications providers poses a real threat to credible elections.
