Bandits abduct ‘many villagers, rustle cattle’ in Zamfara community


Suspected bandits have reportedly abducted several villagers and rustled an unspecified number of cattle during an attack on Kuya village in Bungudu LGA of Zamfara state.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the incident happened on Saturday at about 12pm when armed men wielding AK-47 rifles and other weapons invaded the community through the Kekun Waje district.

The publication noted that troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA were deployed to pursue the attackers, with efforts centred on rescuing the abducted victims and recovering the stolen livestock.

Makama added that security forces have intensified operations in the area to restore normalcy and forestall further attacks.

The incidents add to the recent reports of abduction and killings in Zamfara.

On Friday, more than 50 people were reportedly killed by bandits in the Anka and Bukuyum LGAs of the state.

The assailants were said to have arrived in the community on motorcycles, setting buildings ablaze and abducting residents".
