Concerns are mounting in Benue State following the circulation of an alleged list of successful candidates in the recent DSS and short service recruitment exercise.
Some stakeholders, particularly from Tiv communities, have expressed dissatisfaction with what they describe as an uneven distribution of opportunities within the state.
According to claims being shared online, 19 candidates were shortlisted from Benue. Of that number, seven are said to be Tiv, while the remaining slots reportedly went to candidates of Idoma and Hausa extraction. The figures have sparked debate over representation and equity.
Critics argue that beyond party politics, attention should be shifted toward positioning youths in strategic national institutions. They allege that while some groups are focusing on strengthening political structures, others are prioritising employment access and long-term institutional placement for their young people.
There are also questions over the national allocation formula. Commentators point out that some states allegedly secured between 30 and 40 slots, while Benue received 19. They are calling for greater transparency in the selection criteria and state-by-state quota distribution.
The development has triggered appeals to Benue’s political leadership, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), to advocate for what critics describe as fairer representation for the state.
