Former Labour Party governorship candidate in Edo State, Olumide Akpata, has officially left the Labour Party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Akpata, who was the LP candidate in the 2024 Edo governorship election and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, made the move on Tuesday during a ceremony at the ADC secretariat in Benin City.
The Edo State ADC Chairman, Kennedy Odion, presented him with the party’s membership card in the presence of top party leaders.
Among those present were former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, former APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, and former Edo State Governor, Oserheimen Osunbor.
Akpata thanked the party for the warm welcome. He said he decided to join ADC to help strengthen the party, especially after Peter Obi joined the party in December 2025. He also praised members of the Obidient Movement for remaining strong and committed.
Speaking at the event, Peter Obi said their mission to build a better Nigeria remains strong.
According to him, some people are doing everything possible to stop them, but they are determined to continue.
He said Nigeria must work for everyone, not just a few people. He added that the country must move from just consuming goods to producing more for growth and development.
The event marks a new political chapter in Edo State as leaders push for what they call a “new Nigeria.”
