A United States Congressman, Riley Moore, has described the new US–Nigeria security partnership as a rare and important opportunity for Nigeria.
Moore spoke after a two-day high-level meeting between officials from both countries focused on security cooperation.
According to him, the deal will help Nigeria address serious security problems, especially violent attacks in the North and Middle Belt regions.
He said the partnership will also improve cooperation between the US and Nigeria and promote religious freedom.
The US lawmaker explained that the agreement became necessary following Nigeria’s designation as a Country of Particular Concern by former US President Donald Trump.
Moore added that Nigeria now has a unique chance to strengthen its relationship with the United States while working together to fight terrorism, protect citizens, and solve wider economic and security challenges.
