Two Journalists Found Dead in Morocco During AFCON 2025; Investigations Underway

Two journalists, Mohamed Soumaré of Mali and Audrey Ibohn Njoh of Cameroon, were reportedly found dead in their hotel rooms in Morocco during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Soumaré reportedly passed away on January 14; the cause of his death has not been disclosed, and investigations are ongoing. Njoh, an MTN employee and football enthusiast, was also found dead under allegedly mysterious circumstances, with no visible injuries reported.

Some social media users have allegedly linked their deaths to criticism of perceived corruption and bias in the AFCON 2025 tournament, though official sources state there is currently no evidence of foul play. Authorities in Morocco continue investigations to determine the cause of death.

The international journalism community has expressed concern, urging transparency and safety for reporters covering sensitive issues during major sporting events.
