The All Progressives Congress (APC) has distanced itself from reports suggesting that the party asked the Chief Justice to comply with a court order seeking the suspension of impeachment proceedings against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The clarification was made by Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary of the ruling party, during an interview on TVC News on Monday, January 19, 2026.
Morka was responding to questions on the political crisis in Rivers State, where the House of Assembly has initiated an impeachment process against Governor Fubara, a development widely regarded as one of the most sensitive political tests facing the APC in recent times.
While fielding the question, the interviewer asked, “Your party is facing one of its most sensitive political tests, and I’m referring to Rivers State, where there is now an active impeachment attempt to remove Governor Fubara. Can you confirm a published statement that APC has asked the Chief Justice to comply with a court order calling for a suspension of that process?”
In response, Morka firmly denied issuing or confirming any such statement on behalf of the party. He said, “Well, if you say a public statement, the last I checked, if I may, I am Felix Morka, the National Public Secretary of APC.” He emphasized his role as the official spokesperson of the party and clarified that no such communication originated from his office.
Morka further explained the party’s internal process for issuing official positions. “I didn’t publish such a statement, and I’m not in the business of confirming statements that are sourced from elsewhere.” According to him, only statements released through recognized party channels should be regarded as official.
He added that his responsibility is limited to verifying authentic party communications, stating, “You know, my job is to confirm statements issued under the hands of, you know, the legitimate authorities of the party.” On the specific report in question, Morka maintained a neutral stance, saying, “But the statement you referred to, I cannot confirm or deny it because it didn't come, you know, from my office.”
