It is however important to place on record that this intervention did not happen in a vacuum; it is the direct outcome of our earlier press release and persistent advocacy calling the attention of government and security agencies to the grave danger confronting our students and residents.
However, while we appreciate this step, we must state clearly and unequivocally that deployment alone is not enough.
What we are faced with in Isara, Ipara and Ode is not a flash or isolated security challenge that can be solved with temporary patrols or short-term deployments. These communities have, over time, become recurring theatres of violent crimes, cult-related attacks, armed robbery and senseless killings many of which have claimed the lives of innocent students and young people, the hope of their parents and the future of our society.
This is not the first time we are raising alarm, and sadly, history has shown that once temporary deployments are withdrawn, criminal elements regroup and resume their reign of terror.
We therefore demand a PERMANENT DEPLOYMENT of security operatives to Isara, Ipara and Ode, backed by the establishment of fully functional police offices and purpose-built security facilities in these communities.
Permanent deployment is non-negotiable for the following reasons:
1. Sustained Deterrence: Criminal elements thrive where security presence is uncertain or temporary. A permanent police formation with stationed officers will serve as a continuous deterrent and disrupt the operations of cultists and violent gangs who currently exploit security gaps.
2. Rapid Response and Intelligence Gathering: A permanent base will enhance response time to distress calls and allow officers to build community-based intelligence through familiarity with the terrain, residents and patterns of criminal activities something impossible with ad-hoc deployments.
3. Protection of Students and Educational Corridors: These areas host and connect major educational institutions. Our students should not have to study, commute or reside in fear. A permanent security architecture is essential to safeguarding these academic corridors.
4. Restoration of Public Confidence: Communities cannot function optimally when fear dominates daily life. Permanent police offices and visible infrastructure signal seriousness, commitment and reassurance to residents, parents and investors alike.
Beyond security deployment, we are deeply disturbed by another pressing and unresolved issue: our students are still languishing in Babcock Hospital and Live well hospital ajaka sagamu facilities, traumatized and displaced, while bureaucratic silence and institutional buck-passing persist over who will take responsibility for healthcare and operational costs running into over ₦5 million naira.
It is unacceptable that after lives have been lost and futures disrupted, students are now subjected to further hardship because of financial disagreements and administrative inertia. Even more troubling is the fact that no concrete operation has been fully executed on ground, yet discussions are already centered on who will pay huge sums for “operations,” while the immediate welfare, safety and return of our students remain in limbo.
We therefore demand the following with immediate effect:
1. A clear, transparent and coordinated response from the school management, the Local Government and the Ogun State Government on how the costs of security operations and student welfare will be handled without delay or excuses.
2. Immediate steps to ensure that the students are safely returned, supported and protected, rather than abandoned to suffer the consequences of a failure they did not create.
3. A comprehensive security plan that goes beyond rhetoric, including timelines for the construction or designation of permanent police buildings in Isara, Ipara and Ode, and official confirmation of permanent deployment.
Let it be on record that the lives of our students are not expendable, and their safety cannot be reduced to temporary measures or media-friendly deployments. We have reached a point where half-measures will no longer be accepted. This time, decisive and lasting action must be taken.
We will continue to engage, demand and mobilize until permanent solutions are implemented. The safety of our students and communities is not a favor to be granted,it is a responsibility that must be fulfilled.
Enough is enough.
