Popular social media activist, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has called out Nigerian singer Wizkid for what he described as disrespect towards music legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
In a viral video, VDM said Nigeria is one of the few countries that does not value its music legends. He explained that while other countries celebrate their great artists, Nigerians often insult theirs and call them “past glory.”
He said many old Nigerian music stars who speak about national and industry issues are either ignored or attacked instead of being respected.
VDM also reacted to the ongoing online fight involving Wizkid and Seun Kuti, saying Wizkid’s comments made his fans insult the late Fela Kuti.
According to him, even though disagreements happen, Wizkid should have handled the issue better and shown respect to a global music icon.
He also rejected claims that Wizkid is bigger than Fela because of a Grammy award, explaining that Wizkid’s Grammy came from a collaboration with Beyoncé, not a solo project.
VDM praised Burna Boy and Tems, saying their Grammy awards came from their personal musical work and talent.
He reminded Nigerians that Beyoncé has always respected Fela Kuti and even performed his song Zombie as a tribute, adding that Fela’s influence is still strong worldwide.
VeryDarkMan concluded that Wizkid has not surpassed Fela Kuti or the Kuti family in music, impact, and global influence, saying their legacy remains unmatched in African music history.
