The Presidency has clarified its earlier statement on ambassadorial postings, confirming that no ambassador has been appointed to Turkey despite initial reports to the contrary.
A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said that while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the posting of three ambassador-designates, the Turkey assignment was not finalised and remains under review.
The confirmed postings include:
Ambassador Ayodele Oke as Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to France;
Colonel Lateef Are (rtd.) as ambassador-designate to the United States of America;
Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu as High Commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom.
Earlier announcements had included Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, former Kebbi State governor, as ambassador-designate to Turkey. However, the Presidency has since withdrawn that posting, with Onanuga’s corrected statement clarifying there is currently no ambassador for Turkey.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been directed to notify the governments of the three confirmed countries in line with established diplomatic protocols, but there has been no final decision on Turkey.
This clarification comes amid preparations for President Tinubu’s planned state visit to Turkey, and the Presidency said it will provide further updates once a decision on the Turkish posting is finalised.
