Police Pay N310,000 To Truck Drivers After Bauchi–Jos Road Protest

Truck drivers on Friday blocked the Bauchi–Jos highway at the Miri axis of Bauchi metropolis after one of their colleagues’ truck tyres was allegedly damaged during a revenue enforcement operation, causing traffic disruption along the busy route.

The incident occurred in Bauchi on Friday, January 16, 2026, after officials of a federal haulage unit reportedly placed a metal blocking device on the road when the driver failed to stop for checks, leading to a tyre burst and sparking the protest.

Police intervention led by senior officers resulted in dialogue with the drivers and the payment of ₦310,000 to replace the damaged tyre, after which the protesters dispersed peacefully, the road was reopened, and two suspects were arrested for breach of public peace.
