Nigerians Resurface Old Video of Wike Condemning Foreign Law Degrees After Son’s UK Graduation

Social media users have dug up an old video of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, where he strongly criticised Nigerians for travelling abroad to study Law, insisting the Nigerian legal system should be studied locally.

The video resurfaced days after his son reportedly bagged a Master’s degree in Law from King’s College London — a development that has triggered intense reactions online.

In the old clip, Wike argued that studying Law abroad was unnecessary and disconnected from Nigeria’s legal realities. Critics now say the contrast between his past stance and his son’s academic path raises questions about double standards among public office holders.

Supporters, however, argue that personal choices should not invalidate policy opinions, noting that global exposure remains valuable in today’s interconnected world.

As the debate rages on, Nigerians continue to ask:
👉 Is this hypocrisy, evolution of thought, or simply the privilege of power?
