The Federal Government has successfully restored electricity generation to 608 megawatts (MW) after a sudden collapse of the national grid that left large parts of the country without power.
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) reported that power output, which had dropped drastically during the collapse, was gradually brought back online. Supply to the nation’s electricity distribution companies increased steadily from about 60 MW earlier in the day to 608 MW by the evening.
The grid collapse highlights ongoing challenges within Nigeria’s power sector, which has faced repeated outages causing financial losses and disruption to homes, businesses, and industries. Authorities say measures are being implemented to stabilise the grid and prevent similar occurrences in the future, including investments in infrastructure and system resilience.
Residents are urged to remain patient as recovery efforts continue and electricity supply returns to normal levels.
