Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has suggested he could buy budget airline Ryanair, intensifying a very public clash with the airline’s outspoken CEO, Michael O’Leary.
The spat began after O’Leary was asked whether Ryanair would follow carriers like Lufthansa and British Airways by installing Musk’s Starlink onboard internet. O’Leary dismissed the idea, claiming Starlink antennas would cause “2% fuel drag” and add between $200m–$250m to Ryanair’s annual fuel bill.
Musk hit back on X, calling the claims “misinformed,” sparking a tit-for-tat exchange that saw both men trade insults online. The Tesla and SpaceX boss even went as far as suggesting O’Leary should be fired.
Whether Musk’s takeover talk is serious or just part of the online sparring, the feud has firmly taken off.
