A political analyst, Musa Pai, has warned that the actions of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, could pose serious risks to President Bola Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 general election.
Pai made the remarks in an opinion published by TheCable on January 23, 2026 at 11:03 pm, where he argued that governance in the Federal Capital Territory has slowed significantly, while political tension continues to rise in Rivers State. According to him, developments in both areas are creating avoidable political challenges for the President.
He noted that Wike’s political style, which he described as confrontational, is generating hostility that could negatively affect the image and stability of the current administration. Pai warned that such actions may alienate key political actors and communities, thereby weakening the government’s standing as it approaches another election cycle.
The analyst further argued that the situation in Rivers State remains volatile, with lingering political disputes threatening peace and effective governance. In the FCT, he said unresolved political issues and policy controversies have contributed to what he described as stalled governance, raising concerns among residents and observers.
Pai described Wike’s approach to politics as destructive, likening it to a “wrecking ball” that leaves lasting damage in its wake. He recalled that similar tactics had deepened internal crises within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ultimately leading to Wike’s expulsion from the party.
He cautioned that if unchecked, the same style of politics could inflict collateral damage on the Presidency, particularly as political alignments and public perceptions become increasingly important ahead of 2027.
The comments have added to ongoing debates over the role of strong political actors within the current administration and how their actions may influence governance, party relations, and the broader political climate in the coming years.
