Minister Warns: Atiku–Obi Ticket “Cannot Beat Tinubu” in 2027

The Minister of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has stated that a joint opposition ticket featuring former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi would be unlikely to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

Speaking in a recent interview, Musawa described the combination as strategically flawed, warning that placing Obi as a deputy on the ticket could alienate his supporters and weaken the opposition’s chances.
“Even with the Atiku–Obi ticket, the opposition is not likely to overcome the ruling APC,” she said.

Musawa emphasized that opposition success depends on party structures, voter alignment, and effective grassroots organization, not just high-profile personalities. She also suggested that an Obi-led ticket could be even less effective in challenging Tinubu’s re-election.

The comments have sparked debate among political observers, highlighting ongoing strategic discussions within Nigeria’s opposition as the 2027 general election approaches.
