President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has withdrawn and reversed several high-profile appointments across government agencies, including at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), diplomatic postings and other key positions, sparking debate over administrative consistency in his administration.
According to reports, the presidency recently set aside new management appointments at the NTA, reinstating former leadership less than two weeks after announcing replacements.
The reversed roles included the Director-General and executive directors whose appointments were widely publicised before being abruptly overturned. Critics say this has raised questions about the government’s reform agenda for the state broadcaster and organisational stability.
The latest diplomatic reversal involved the withdrawal of Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Turkey, Usman Isa Dakingari, whose posting was cancelled just hours after initial approval. At the same time, President Tinubu reaffirmed postings for other ambassadors to countries including France, the United States and the United Kingdom following a review by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Observers note that this is not an isolated occurrence: in recent months, several ministerial, board and commission appointments have been amended, reversed or cancelled shortly after announcement, sometimes within hours. Supporters argue this reflects responsiveness to political and administrative feedback, while critics say it signals rushed decision-making that creates uncertainty across public institutions.
The presidency has not elaborated on the reasons for these reversals, but the pattern comes amid ongoing discussions about strengthening governance processes and ensuring that appointments align with broader national priorities.
