Olaolu, the son of the Oniwo of Afin, Oba Simeon Olanipekun, has regained his freedom after being abducted by gunmen in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. The young man, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps, was released on Monday following the payment of a N20 million ransom.
A family source confirmed that Olaolu was dropped off at a herders’ settlement around Oreke, from where he was taken to a military base. “It is true the prince was released after we paid N20 million. They dropped him at Oreke, and the military took over from there,” the source said.
Olaolu is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital for physical and psychological trauma sustained during his captivity.
Meanwhile, his father, Oba Simeon Olanipekun, and other abducted residents remain in the hands of the kidnappers, who are reportedly demanding an additional N15 million for their release.
