The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has declared that former Kano State Governor and political leader **Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso does not currently have a viable path to secure a presidential ticket for the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Keyamo said that Kwankwaso’s political positioning has left him “boxed into one of the tightest corners” of his career due to what the minister described as indecision over aligning earlier with a major political force.
According to Keyamo, major parties such as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are expected to zone their presidential tickets to the South, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is perceived to be heavily influenced by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar effectively limiting Kwankwaso’s chances.
Keyamo also questioned the strength of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as a national platform, noting that it remains largely centred in Kano and lacks the broader national spread needed to win the presidency.
The minister suggested that 2031 might offer a more realistic presidential window for Kwankwaso but stressed that the alliances he forms in 2027 will be critical to any future ambitions.
Political analysts say Kwankwaso’s situation reflects the dynamic and shifting realignments in Nigeria’s party politics ahead of the 2027 elections, where zoning arrangements and coalition negotiations are proving decisive for aspirants across the country.
