The Kano State Government has publicly warned political supporters against insulting Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya political movement, saying such behaviour will attract sanctions from authorities. The warning was issued during an official event where government officials urged calm amid rising political tensions in the state.
The Director-General of Media and Publicity at Government House, Bature Tofa, said the government would not tolerate indiscipline or disrespect toward Kwankwaso, emphasizing his long-standing contributions to Kano politics and the need for respect regardless of current disagreements. Supporters of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf were specifically urged to show restraint and maturity in their public remarks.
The admonition comes against the backdrop of political realignments in the state following Governor Yusuf’s resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) a move that has intensified debates within the Kwankwasiyya movement and among residents about the future of local politics.
Senator Kwankwaso has reiterated his commitment to his political principles and urged supporters to stay united, insisting the movement is driven by shared values, not personal gain.
There are ongoing tensions over alleged forced defections among local officials, with Kwankwaso accusing the government of pressuring them a claim that reflects deeper political disagreements in the state.
