The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has scrapped special concessions and registration procedures previously granted to candidates with albinism for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
According to the Board, the decision followed reported abuse of the privilege to perpetrate examination malpractice, prompting a full withdrawal of the special arrangements.
JAMB also issued a strong warning to faith-based tertiary institutions, insisting they must clearly declare their religious status at the point of admission. The Board described it as deceptive for institutions to present themselves as secular, only to later impose religious rules and practices on admitted students.
As reported by Vanguard, the resolutions were reached on Saturday during a meeting in Ikeja between JAMB management—led by its Registrar, Isaq Oloyede—and Commissioners for Education from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Prof. Oloyede explained that the meeting was convened to review and assess previous admission exercises, with a focus on improving transparency, fairness, and integrity in Nigeria’s tertiary education admission process.
The latest move is expected to spark debate, especially among education stakeholders and advocacy groups, as JAMB balances inclusion policies with the fight against examination malpractice.
