A Nigerian man has set social media on fire after reportedly choosing prison time instead of refunding money mistakenly credited to his account.
According to posts shared by @arhermadd on X, the man, Ogo Ehosa Kingsley, was mistakenly credited with ₦1.5 billion by First Bank — and allegedly spent the funds between June and November 2025.
📌 What happened next?
• EFCC arrested and prosecuted him on January 19, 2026
• He pleaded guilty to theft and fraud
• EFCC recovered ₦802.42m from his account and those of his mother & sister
• Over ₦300m was retrieved through transfer reversals
• Outstanding balance: ₦272,252,193.59
⚖️ The shocker:
Instead of refunding the remaining ₦272m, Kingsley reportedly told the court he would rather serve a 1-year prison sentence.
Yes. Jail over refund.
The case, heard at the Edo State High Court, has triggered massive online debate, with many Nigerians asking:
👉 “Was it worth it?”
👉 “One year for ₦272m… smart or senseless?”
Social media is still arguing. 👀🔥
