Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has reacted to talks linking him to a possible role as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in the 2027 general election.
Dogara said leadership and nation-building have never depended on perfect people, stressing that great societies were built by ordinary individuals, not flawless ones.
Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, the former Speaker said he does not see himself as perfect, adding that everything he has achieved in life and politics is by the grace of God.
He noted that although he may not be fully prepared for any future role, his experience as Speaker of the House of Representatives, where he was once the fourth-highest public officer in Nigeria, exposed him to key aspects of governance.
Dogara explained that the position gave him access to responsibilities and knowledge many people may never encounter, but he remains aware of his limitations.
“All I know is that I’m not perfect,” he said, while acknowledging his political background and experience.
His comments come amid growing political discussions ahead of the 2027 elections.
