Nigerian-American professor Dr Uju Anya has opened up on why her marriage ended, speaking candidly on With Chude.
She revealed that her childhood was shaped by a troubled home, with an abusive, womanising father and a mother who left the marriage when she was just 10 — an experience that left her emotionally wounded.
Despite identifying as bis£xual, Dr Anya said she genuinely loved her ex-husband and married him intentionally.
“He was hot, funny, and I felt real attraction. It felt like my passport to a normal life,” she said.
Years into the marriage, she realised her attraction to women was stronger. About 10 years later, she told her husband, and they mutually agreed to open the marriage, with both dating other people. The arrangement only prolonged the marriage for a few more years.
She said the final clarity came after attending a Nigerian lẹsbiãn wedding in New York.
“That was when I knew my marriage was over.”
Dr Anya also addressed backlash over her views and crítícism of the British monarchy, revealing she received déàth thréàts and had to involve the police and FBI.
In 2024, she married her long-time partner, Dr Syria Lang, describing her as her dream woman.
