Federal Government Warns Contractors After Paying N152 Billion

The Federal Government has confirmed disbursing ₦152 billion to local contractors for verified projects, urging them to stop harassing ministry staff amid ongoing protests in Abuja.

According to the Federal Ministry of Finance, payments were made following strict verification processes designed to protect taxpayers’ funds and ensure accountability and transparency. The ministry acknowledged that delays in settling outstanding contract fees have put financial strain on contractors, but stressed the importance of due process in processing and releasing payments.

The warning came as members of the All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria (AICAN) staged demonstrations over delayed payments, claiming the government still owes trillions of naira for completed contracts and accusing officials of slow payments and bureaucratic hurdles.

In its statement, the ministry appealed for constructive dialogue and mutual respect, urging contractors to lodge grievances through the right institutional channels and refrain from intimidating or harassing staff responsible for handling payment matters.
