Ethiopia is making history in technology and education. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) has announced plans to establish an Artificial Intelligence (AI) University, which will become only the second AI-focused university in the world.
The institution is expected to be ready within six months and will admit up to 1,000 high-performing students. Importantly, 100 scholarships will be reserved for African students, with two scholarships allocated to each African country.
The university will focus on AI, machine learning, robotics, data mining, and computing, with a strong emphasis on quality and practical education. Teaching and research will involve local experts, members of the diaspora, and international professionals.
This ambitious project is set to strengthen Ethiopia’s role in the global technology space and prepare young Africans for a knowledge-driven digital economy.
