Atiku Reacts as Son, Abba Abubakar, Joins APC

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has taken a firm stance following the decision of his son, Abba Abubakar, to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a personal choice that does not affect his own political convictions.

In a statement on Wednesday, Atiku said that in a democratic system, such decisions are neither unusual nor alarming, even when they involve close family members. He emphasized that he does not interfere with the political choices of his children, noting that freedom of conscience is a fundamental democratic value.
“As a democrat, I do not coerce my own children in matters of conscience, and I certainly will not coerce Nigerians,” Atiku stated.

The former vice president, however, stressed that his major concern remains what he described as the poor governance of the APC, accusing the ruling party of imposing severe economic and social hardships on Nigerians.

Atiku reaffirmed his commitment to working with “like-minded patriots” to restore good governance in the country, pledging to offer Nigerians a credible political alternative capable of delivering relief, hope, and progress.

He concluded by maintaining that his political focus remains unchanged despite his son’s decision, insisting that the welfare of Nigerians and the future of the country remain his top priorities.
