Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has revealed that head coach Eric Chelle now wants all Nigerian players to perform at the same high level as Victor Osimhen.
Ndidi praised Osimhen, describing the Galatasaray striker as a dream player for any team. He said Osimhen’s energy, leadership, and performance have set the standard for the entire Super Eagles squad.
At the AFCON 2025, Osimhen has been outstanding, scoring four goals and providing two assists. He has also impressed with his work rate, especially by pressing opponents even when Nigeria are not in possession.
Osimhen captained Nigeria in the match against Mozambique and again wore the armband in the crucial semi-final clash against Morocco.
Ndidi, who missed the Mozambique game and was suspended for the Morocco match, spoke to journalists ahead of Nigeria’s third-place playoff against Egypt.
“Osimhen is one of the best strikers in the world,” Ndidi said. “Since the coach came in, he has made everyone feel they must reach Osimhen’s level. He’s like three strikers in one.”
Osimhen was unable to take a penalty in Nigeria’s shootout loss to Morocco after he was substituted late in extra time due to an ankle injury.
