Ivory Coast football legend Yaya Touré has crowned the Super Eagles of Nigeria as the most impressive team at the just-concluded Africa Cup of Nations 2025.
The 35th edition of AFCON ended on Sunday with Senegal national football team lifting the trophy after a 1–0 victory over hosts Morocco national football team. Despite missing out on the final—after a 4–2 penalty shootout defeat to Morocco in the semifinals—Nigeria finished third, beating Egypt national football team 4–2 on penalties.
Speaking in an interview with Bleacher Report Football, Touré praised several sides but placed Nigeria above all others.
“I’ve seen the AFCON; I’ve been there. I was impressed with Algeria—unfortunately, they were knocked out by Nigeria. I was impressed with Morocco too, very pragmatic and direct,” Touré said.
“But I was impressed with Nigeria; they play good football. When you look at the stats, they were scoring more goals than usual—full strike, full attack, very good football.”
The four-time African Footballer of the Year went further, highlighting the quality within the Super Eagles squad:
“The most impressive team for me was Nigeria—the football they were playing, the goals they were scoring, the players they have. I think they have two of Africa’s best players, and they played wonderfully before they were knocked out by Morocco.”
Another big endorsement for a Super Eagles side that lit up AFCON 2025 with flair, goals, and fearless attacking football. 🇳🇬🔥
