Veteran journalist and publisher Dele Momodu has criticised what he described as the needless culture of wealthy Nigerians travelling abroad just to spend money, arguing that celebrating, relaxing, and investing at home makes far more sense.
Momodu shared his views during a conversation with Israel DMW, a close aide to Davido, where both men agreed that Nigeria remains comfortable and conducive enough for affluent individuals to enjoy their wealth.
According to Momodu, many rich Nigerians travel to “quiet, unknown places” overseas mainly for show, rather than staying back home where their spending could have more impact. He lamented the rising cost of foreign travel, revealing that flight tickets alone now range between ₦5 million and ₦10 million.
“I’m tired of travelling,” Momodu said, questioning why such huge sums are spent on air tickets when the same money could be used to support villages, local businesses, and communities.
Israel DMW echoed the sentiment, expressing shock at the figures mentioned and insisting that Nigeria already offers enough comfort for leisure and celebration without the need for extravagant foreign trips.
The conversation has since sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians agreeing that supporting local tourism and investing at home is a better use of wealth than splurging abroad.
