Football’s leading fan organisations have called on FIFA to immediately stop selling tickets for the 2026 World Cup, set to be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico, over what they describe as outrageous and exclusionary pricing.
According to reports, premium tickets for the final are nearing $9,000, a figure critics say will shut ordinary supporters out of the world’s biggest football event.
Football Supporters Europe condemned the pricing as “extortionate”, issuing its warning on Thursday after national football associations began circulating official price lists. Some tickets are reportedly up to seven times more expensive than those sold for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Fan groups argue that the new pricing model threatens the very soul of the tournament, turning it into an event for elites rather than passionate supporters who give football its atmosphere.
With backlash growing, pressure is mounting on FIFA to review its ticketing strategy before fans are permanently priced out.
