Former Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, has been remanded in Kuje Prison following his arraignment in an Abuja High Court on Friday.
Ngige was brought before Justice Maryam Hassan of the FCT High Court, Gwarinpa Division, where he faced an eight-count charge filed by the EFCC, bordering on alleged contract fraud and abuse of office involving about ₦2.2 billion.
The former minister, however, pleaded NOT guilty to all the charges.
After hearing arguments, the court ordered that Ngige be kept in Kuje Correctional Centre until the court decides on his bail application.
His bail hearing has been fixed for Monday, December 14, 2025.
The charges reportedly relate to contract approvals and financial dealings linked to his time overseeing the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).
This case has already sparked massive reactions nationwide as one of the biggest political corruption cases in recent times.
