Just days before the Africa Cup of Nations kicks off, the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has plunged into total disarray as a bitter feud erupts between FA President Samuel Eto’o and national team manager Marc Brys.
🔥 The Root of the Crisis
Belgian coach Marc Brys—whose contract with Cameroon’s Ministry of Sport runs until September 2026—has reportedly been told by Eto’o that his time as coach is “over.”
But Brys has refused to accept dismissal, insisting he remains the legitimate manager.
This power struggle has now produced an unprecedented situation:
Cameroon named TWO different AFCON squads.
📝 Eto’o’s Squad
FECAFOOT, led by Eto’o, held an emergency meeting on Dec 1 and released a 28-man squad with:
• David Pagou appointed as AFCON head coach
• A completely new backroom staff
• Major stars André Onana, Eric Choupo-Moting, and Vincent Aboubakar excluded
The squad is already listed on FIFA’s website, and Pagou held a press briefing outlining the team’s AFCON ambitions.
👀 Explosive Allegations
Sources told The Sun that Eto’o allegedly wanted Aboubakar dropped to protect his own all-time goal-scoring record.
Aboubakar, 33, is only 12 goals away from surpassing Eto’o—something he could achieve at AFCON.
🆚 Brys’ Counterattack
On Wednesday, Marc Brys fired back by announcing his own Cameroon squad, reinstating:
✔ André Onana
✔ Choupo-Moting
✔ Aboubakar
Speaking to VTM NIEUWS, Brys claimed:
“It’s always been Eto’o’s goal to get me out… From the first minute, he insulted me. I was too much of a competitor for him.”
⚠️ AFCON Meltdown Loading?
With two rival squads, two rival coaches, and an FA at war with the Ministry of Sport, Cameroon’s AFCON campaign is now hanging by a thread.
This is shaping up to be one of the biggest pre-tournament crises in African football history.
