Prof. Olusegun Idowu Emerges as FUNAAB's New DVC, Academic


The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has recorded another milestone in its tradition of exemplary leadership with the election of Prof. Olusegun Idowu as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). His election took place at the 232nd Statutory Meeting of Senate held today, November 27, 2025.

According to the Ag. Head, Directorate of Public Relations, Mr. Olasunkanmi Olajide, Prof. Idowu, who until now served as the Director, Institute of Food Security, Environmental Resources and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR), brings to the position a legacy of excellence, integrity, and profound institutional loyalty. He added that the elevation of Prof. Idowu is particularly symbolic for the University, as an accomplished alumnus rises once again to contribute at the highest level of academic administration. 

Mr. Olajide noted that Prof. Idowu takes over from Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, who recently assumed duty as the Vice-Chancellor of Aletheia University, Ago-Iwoye.

A distinguished scholar and seasoned university Administrator, Mr. Olajide further stated that Prof. Idowu is a Registered Animal Scientist with over 28 years of impactful service in teaching, research, and community engagement. His academic journey at FUNAAB is a compelling story of dedication and steady progression, beginning as a Graduate Assistant in the College of Animal Science and Livestock Production (COLANIM) and culminating in his rise to Professor of Monogastric Animal Nutrition.

Beyond his scholarly achievements, Prof. Idowu has demonstrated exceptional leadership within and outside the University. He currently serves as a Federal Government appointee on the Governing Council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG). Within FUNAAB, he has held several strategic roles, including Head, Department of Animal Nutrition; Director, Distance Learning Centre; Chairman, Senate Coordinating Committee on Examination Results (SECOCER); and Chairman, Timetable and Examination Committee (TIMTEC), among others.

These experiences reflect a deep commitment to academic excellence, administrative efficiency, and community-driven development, qualities that have earned him the admiration of colleagues, students, and stakeholders across the University system.
