Emir Sanusi II Conferred PhD in Law at SOAS, University of London

Friends, family, and dignitaries gathered in London to celebrate the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, as he achieved another milestone in his distinguished academic journey. The revered monarch was conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law by the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.

Renowned for his intellect and refinement, the Emir cut a striking figure at the graduation ceremony. Though dressed like other graduands in the traditional red and yellow academic robe, his regal bearing set him apart as he walked with poise to receive his honours. His doctoral thesis, titled “Codification of Islamic Family Law as an Instrument of Social Reform: A Case Study of the Emirate of Kano and a Comparison with the Kingdom of Morocco”, was also unveiled during the ceremony.

With characteristic humility, Sanusi expressed gratitude to his colleagues and loved ones who joined him in marking the occasion. The university hosted a private reception for about 20 close friends and family members in his honour.

Later in the evening, celebrations continued with an exclusive dinner at The Lanesborough Hotel, London. The high-profile guest list included Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf; Abia State Governor, Alex Otti; Senior Pastor of Trinity House, Ituah Ighodalo; and founder of Stanbic IBTC Bank, Atedo Peterside, among other eminent personalities.
