Drama erupted on Monday at Ologbo Park, near the Agip Filling Station along Sapele Road, Benin City, when a popular evangelist, identified as Pastor Evidence, chased away another pastor who attempted to preach to passengers travelling to Warri, Delta State.
Preaching to passengers before departure is a common practice in Benin motor parks, with evangelists often seeking financial support for their ministry. However, the routine took an unusual twist when Pastor Evidence, in full view of travellers, bus conductors, and onlookers, insisted that he had exclusive rights to minister at the park and ordered his colleague to leave.
The confrontation triggered chaos, dividing bus drivers and other witnesses. While some backed Pastor Evidence, others condemned his actions, accusing him of greed and hostility towards a fellow preacher.
A passenger who witnessed the incident criticised the evangelist, saying his behaviour reflected the commercialisation of the gospel. “It is shameful for a supposed man of God to act this way. This only fuels the exploitation of the word of God by fake preachers,” the traveller said.
