Adamawa Police Rescue Five Abducted Borno Children in Mubi

Barely a month after intercepting 14 abducted children being trafficked from Adamawa to Anambra State, the Adamawa State Police Command has rescued another set of five children, this time abducted from Maiduguri, Borno State.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the children were recovered in Mubi Local Government Area following swift police action.

According to him, the Area Commander in Mubi, ACP Marcos Mancha, acting on credible intelligence, led a surveillance team on September 13, 2025, that intercepted the children, who were seen loitering around the town.

The victims were identified as Adamu Musa (16), Suleiman Idris (10), Suleiman Mohammed (11), Dauda Yahaya (11), and Mohammed Alhassan (11), all residents of Gwange in Maiduguri.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the children were unlawfully taken from Maiduguri by one Aliga Suleiman of Sabon Layi, Gwange. The suspect is currently on the run.

“The Command is intensifying efforts to apprehend the suspect and bring him to justice,” the statement read.

Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, commended the Mubi Area Commander and his team for their swift response and directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case, ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspect, and reunite the victims with their families.

Morris further reassured the public of the Command’s determination to safeguard lives and property across Adamawa State.

The incident highlights growing fears over child abduction in northern Nigeria, particularly in Borno and Adamawa—two states severely impacted by insurgency, displacement, and trafficking.

In August 2025, Adamawa police rescued 14 children being trafficked to Anambra State. Similarly, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has recorded several cross-border child trafficking cases in recent years.

With Adamawa serving as a transit corridor due to its porous routes and closeness to conflict-ridden communities, security agencies have ramped up surveillance in border towns like Mubi in an effort to check the menace.
