Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff, announced on Saturday that Nigeria has experienced no incidents of piracy in its waterways over the past five years.
Ogalla revealed this while answering questions from journalists during the passing-out parade for the 2025 class of young sailors at the Nigerian Navy School in Ikot Ntuen, Akwa Ibom State.
The Chief of Naval Staff, speaking through Rear Admiral Gabriel Aligwe, the Chief of Administration at the Nigerian Navy School, stated that various operations conducted in the waterways have significantly enhanced their safety.
"Although this event may focus on addressing security issues, we have various operations underway across the country. Specifically regarding waterways, we are conducting Operation Delta Sanity alongside a series of patrols."
Ogalla revealed, "We have surveillance systems in place and maintain NNS ships at sea to ensure our safety. It's important to note that Nigeria has not recorded any piracy cases for about five years now, highlighting the tremendous effort by our personnel who consistently patrol the waterways."
