The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has joined the discussions surrounding genetically modified organisms (GMOs), assuring Nigerians that while GMO foods are safe, they require appropriate labeling.
Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General of NAFDAC, stated on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily program that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in food are not harmful to us. However, this depends on the specific type of foods and if appropriate safety measures have been implemented.
Adeyeye, a pharmacist and professor, emphasizes the importance of marketers properly labeling GMO foods for consumers.
"The National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) is responsible for ensuring the safety of GMO foods. 'We collaborate with them,' stated the NAFDAC chief."
