The Muslim Council of Taraba State has prohibited all forms of wedding parties in Jalingo, the state capital.
The decision, jointly agreed upon by Imams, traditional rulers, and supported by relevant authorities, specifically outlaws events such as Kauyawa (villagers’ day) and Ajo parties, where youths are known to dress in rags and dance late into the night in the name of wedding celebrations.
Speaking on behalf of the council, the Chief Imam of Mayo Gwoi Jummat Mosque, Imam Tajudeen Nuhu, announced that “from now on, no household is permitted to hold Kauyawa parties, Ajo, or any form of wedding celebration in Jalingo.”
The council warned that any Muslim who disregards the directive will be denied key religious rites, including marriage contracts (Nikah), funeral prayers (Salat al-Janazah), Islamic wedding lectures, and naming ceremonies in their homes.
Clerics were also cautioned against attending such banned gatherings, with vi%lators facing disciplinary measures, including possible removal from office.
The ruling, which formed the central message of last Friday’s sermons in all Jummat mosques across Jalingo, is aimed at fostering discipline, piety, and order within the Muslim community.
