Gov Oyebanji set to Launch Ekiti Robotics Academy

Ekiti State is poised to make another landmark move in the digital innovation space as Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji prepares to officially launch the Ekiti Robotics Academy—a first-of-its-kind STEM education initiative tailored to empower young learners with future-ready skills.

This visionary program, driven by the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Digital Economy (MISDE), represents the state’s commitment to nurturing a new generation of technologically skilled, problem-solving youth who can thrive in the fast-evolving global economy.

Set to be unveiled at the Ekiti StartUp Garage, the Robotics Academy will train primary and secondary school students in robotics, programming, and innovation using the globally recognized VEX Robotics kits. With dedicated kits for different educational levels—VEX 123, VEX GO, VEX EXP, and VEX CTE—the curriculum is designed to be both age-appropriate and highly engaging.

Schools are being selected in structured batches, with five students representing each school per session. Over 400 students across 80 public and private schools are already slated to participate in the pilot phase. Each week, they will rotate through hands-on workshops facilitated by trained STEM educators and passionate volunteers.

Governor Oyebanji, whose administration has consistently prioritized digital transformation and youth empowerment, will officially launch the initiative. The event is expected to draw stakeholders from across the education and innovation ecosystem, and will serve as a strong statement of Ekiti’s readiness to lead Nigeria’s next wave of tech-driven growth.

Speaking ahead of the event, the Honourable Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Digital Economy, Hon. Seun Fakuade, emphasized the broader vision:

“This is more than robotics—it’s about reimagining education. We are building pathways from the classroom to innovation hubs, from local talent to global relevance. Ekiti is not just catching up; we are thinking forward.”

The launch event promises exciting demonstrations of student-built robots, virtual reality explorations, and presentations showcasing the transformative potential of robotics in education. It will also serve as a platform to spotlight the role of digital skills in shaping the future of work and economic development.

As anticipation builds for this historic moment, the public is encouraged to follow the Ministry’s social media platforms for live updates and behind-the-scenes moments.
