A young Nigerian woman has voiced concern over the state of the country’s healthcare system, decrying the financial burden families face when seeking emergency treatment for their loved ones.
In an emotional viral video, she questioned why access to emergency healthcare had become a privilege, noting that even families with some financial means were struggling to afford the rising cost of medical care.
She said the situation had left her worried about the future of young Nigerians and the fate of those unable to pay for essential medical services.
Speaking in the video, she clarified that she was raising the issue not because of pressure from her brother, but as a young Nigerian troubled by the country’s healthcare challenges.
“Do we even value human life in this country? I’m not supposed to be speaking about this, and this isn’t my brother dragging me into it.
“I’m speaking as a young Nigerian who is facing difficulties at an age when I should be hopeful about my future,” she said.
She further noted that even families who could manage some medical expenses were increasingly struggling to keep up with the cost of treatment, raising fears about the situation of less privileged Nigerians.
She questioned what would become of Nigerians without the financial means to pay for basic healthcare, wondering if poverty could stand between people and life-saving treatment.
“Now imagine the Nigerians who cannot afford the basic. What happened to them? Do they have to d!£ because they cannot afford to stay alive?” she asked.
She also raised concern over the financial burden placed on families during medical emergencies, noting that relatives often have to seek help from others, borrow money and exhaust their savings to save the lives of their loved ones.
According to her, the situation has turned access to emergency medical care into a source of fear and uncertainty for many families.
The young woman further described the anxiety of living in a country where families cannot be certain they will be able to afford treatment when a medical emergency arises.
