Peter Obi Need To Explain Why The Sun That Feature 11 Rays On Logo Of Biafra Is On Hero Beer - Arabambi

Abayomi Arabambi, a chieftain of the Labour Party, has challenged Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for the 2027 election, to explain the symbolism of the rising sun featured on the logo of Hero beer during his tenure as governor of Anambra State.

Arabambi raised the issue during an interview on Nevon HQ, while discussing the controversy surrounding the branding of Hero beer and claims about its perceived connection to symbols associated with Biafra.

According to the Labour Party chieftain, the sun depicted on the beer brand's logo bears similarities to the 11-ray rising sun historically associated with the Biafran flag. He questioned why such imagery appeared on the product while Obi was serving as governor of Anambra State.

“Peter Obi need to explain why the sun that feature 11 rays on the logo of Biafra was also the same on Hero beer when he was governor,” Arabambi said during the interview.

His comments appeared to raise questions about whether the use of the rising-sun symbol on the beer brand carried political or cultural significance, particularly because of the historical importance of the symbol in the South-East and its association with the former Republic of Biafra.

Hero beer, produced by Intafact Beverages, was launched in the South-East in 2012 during Obi's time as governor of Anambra State. The brand subsequently gained significant popularity across the region, with its rising-sun imagery widely contributing to its cultural appeal and recognition.

Arabambi's remarks add another dimension to the ongoing political discussions surrounding Obi, his record as governor of Anambra State and issues connected to the history and identity of the South-East.
