The Rivers State House of Assembly has constituted an Ad-Hoc Committee to review the disbursement and utilisation of funds allocated to the PAMO University of Medical Sciences (PUMS) since its inception in 2017.
The committee, chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Dumle Maol, has Hon. Barile Nwanko as a member, alongside Hon. Lemchi Nyeche, Hon. Henrietta Loolo, Hon. Peter Abbey, Hon. Napoleon Ukalikpe and Hon. Emilia Amadi.
The development followed a directive by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, DSSRS, in line with the oversight powers vested in the legislature under Section 128 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
The committee is expected to determine the total amount of funds allocated to PUMS by the Rivers State Government since 2017 and establish whether the funds were utilised for their intended purposes.
It will also examine scholarship schemes associated with the institution and identify beneficiaries who have received scholarships under such programmes.
The Assembly said the exercise was aimed at promoting transparency, accountability and effective utilisation of public resources.
The committee has been directed to submit its findings and recommendations to the House on or before September 30, 2026.
