An Italian-born former Catholic priest has reportedly left the priesthood and gone on to marry a Kenyan woman in a colourful traditional wedding ceremony in Baringo County, Kenya.
Father Sandro Ferretto previously served as a Catholic parish priest in Kasiela and Mochongoi, where he carried out missionary work in the region.
Priesthood gives way to romance
According to reports, it was during his missionary activities in Baringo that Ferretto met Sharon Jepng’ok, a Tugen woman and daughter of former councillor John Wendot.
The encounter reportedly developed into a romantic relationship, eventually leading Ferretto to step away from the priesthood so he could pursue the relationship and build a family.
Couple celebrates traditional wedding
Ferretto has now reportedly married Sharon in a traditional ceremony held at Seretion Village in Kasiela, Baringo South.
Videos and photographs from the colourful celebration have circulated widely in Kenya, attracting attention because of the couple’s unusual journey from a missionary-priest encounter to marriage.
