Chief Peter Ameh, the Kogi East Senatorial Candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has defended Peter Obi over the recent incident in Benue, describing his approach as peaceful and focused on reaching ordinary Nigerians directly across the state.
According to a video posted on the official YouTube channel of AIT on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, while discussing the incident, Ameh said Obi had chosen peace despite the risks surrounding his campaign activities during his outreach efforts.
Ameh argued that Obi was not interested in provoking violence during his movements, stressing that the former Anambra State governor had remained firm while refusing to endanger supporters or other people during political engagements throughout the campaign period.
When asked about the claim that Obi was prepared to risk his life, Ameh stated, “Peter Obi is giving up his life; he is not taking people’s lives. He’s giving up his life, which is what he’s doing, because no presidential campaign in this country can try what Peter Obi is doing.”
The statement came amid discussion about the confrontation involving youths during Obi’s movement in Benue, with Ameh maintaining that the situation should not be used to justify violence or threaten democratic participation and protect the integrity of elections.
He further explained that Obi campaign strategy was based on direct engagement with communities, people who are overlooked during conventional political rallies, rather than relying only on gatherings and giving them opportunity to hear his message directly.
In his concluding remarks, Ameh maintained that Obi was pursuing a campaign style built around peaceful engagement, sacrifice, and contact with Nigerians, while rejecting violence and actions that could result in loss of life during political activities nationwide.
