The Management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) has suspended all remaining activities of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) Week with immediate effect following days of gunfire on the campus allegedly linked to cult groups.
The development has heightened concerns over security and the safety of students within the institution, prompting the university authorities to suspend the remaining SUG Week activities and direct students to return to their classrooms for normal academic activities.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by the University Registrar, Dr. Chinonye Abraham Ajie, and issued to the university community.
According to the statement, all outstanding SUG Week activities have been suspended, while students have been directed to resume lectures on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
The Management warned that students who fail to attend lectures following the directive would be held responsible for their actions.
The university authorities also issued a strong warning against any conduct capable of undermining students’ academic pursuits or threatening the peace and stability of the institution.
The Management stressed the importance of maintaining a peaceful learning environment and urged students to comply fully with the directive.
The Registrar’s statement read in part: “This is to inform the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Community that all remaining activities for the Students’ Union Government (SUG) Week have been suspended by the University Management with immediate effect.”
The Management further cautioned students against engaging in any action considered inimical to their academic progress or the peace of the university.
Students have consequently been advised to return to their respective classrooms as scheduled and refrain from any activity capable of further disrupting academic activities or threatening security on campus.
